How To Maintain A Productive Fleet

Running your own fleet of vehicles can be a hugely rewarding experience for both you and your truckers, but it’s vital that you can take great care of your team if you wish to maintain optimal productivity levels. Luckily, learning how to motivate and inspire your fleet to meet their goals doesn’t have to be as difficult as you might expect, as there are in fact just a few key tips and tricks that you can make the most of to boost your business in no time at all. So, if you would like to find out more, then simply read on!

Set Achievable Goals

One of the most important steps that you must follow if you want to learn how to maintain a productive fleet involves setting achievable goals. Deciding not to set goals is such a huge mistake, as each member of your fleet needs to have something to aim for in order to stay motivated and committed. Setting goals which are far too difficult to achieve will have a much similar effect, as your team will feel constantly deflated and disappointed if they cannot meet such grandiose aims. Take the time to set realistic expectations that don’t ask too much or too little of your fleet, challenging them without intimidating them.

Value Their Well-being

Many people are under the impression that being a trucker is an easy job, as they ‘do nothing but sit down all day’. However this couldn’t be further from the truth, as it takes considerable effort both mentally and physically to keep control of such a large vehicle, and the hours that many truckers work make it quite isolating and strange. That’s why those who run their own fleet need to value the well-being of their truckers each and every day, making sure that they are operating inside the healthiest environment possible without taking too many risks during an average shift. Upgrading your trucks (and their connected living quarters) is a brilliant place to begin, but if you don’t have the cash to perform such a project then you can explore options like increasing break times, providing food tokens for meals on the go or even simple offering regular access to a popular trucking podcast to keep them occupied as they drive.

Reward Their Efforts

Rewarding the hard work of your fleet is always a brilliant way to increase productivity, as being recognised for your hard work gives you the boost you need to continue in the right direction. Even something as basic as saying ‘thank you for your time’ to your truckers at the end of their shift can send them home on a positive note, as it’s always nice to feel appreciated for the tasks you complete. Take your team out for a free staff night at a local restaurant if they meet a particularly tricky goal, or offer a raise to those who always manage to provide a premium service.

It’s never been so simple to boost your fleets productivity when you can utilise some of the steps described above.
