Turning a Munich Event Into a Business Opportunity

Lena Benjamin considers how a Munich visit could create valuable connections across property, flexible workspace, design, investment and leadership while strengthening potential UK–German commercial relationships and opportunities.

Sometimes a business opportunity starts with an invitation that initially appears to be about attending an event.

I have recently been considering a potential trip to Munich for a launch party connected with a multidisciplinary interior design and build business specialising in bespoke spatial solutions.

Rather than simply travelling over for the event, I am looking at whether the visit could become a more purposeful business trip.

The possibility would be to arrive in Munich on the morning of 5 October, attend the launch, and potentially stay overnight — but, importantly, use the day to create a small number of targeted business conversations.

I would be looking to arrange perhaps two or three meetings during the day with people operating across areas where there could be genuine commercial or strategic alignment.

That could include:

  • Property and real-estate professionals
  • Flexible workspace and office operators
  • Design and build companies
  • Founders and senior executives
  • Investors and family-office contacts
  • German companies interested in UK connections

This is the type of thinking behind Strategic Moves.

It is not simply about attending another event, collecting business cards or having conversations without a clear purpose.

It is about asking: What else could this opportunity create?

My work sits across founders, executives, investors and ambitious businesses, with a particular interest in strategic growth, leadership, commercial opportunities and the relationships that can help move those opportunities forward.

A Munich visit therefore creates an interesting possibility.

It could provide a chance to understand more about the German business environment, identify companies looking towards the UK, explore reciprocal opportunities with businesses operating in complementary sectors, and develop relationships that may have value beyond a single meeting.

There may also be an opportunity to connect two markets rather than simply operate within one.

For a UK-based founder, executive or business owner, international opportunities do not necessarily require immediately establishing an overseas operation. Sometimes they begin with a conversation, an introduction, a shared commercial interest or simply understanding where there is a potential point of connection.

That is why I am considering making the trip more intentional.

The event may be the reason for going to Munich.

The conversations could become the real business opportunity.

If you are based in Munich, work across Germany and the UK, or see potential synergies around property, workspace, design, investment, entrepreneurship or business growth, let’s have a quick chat.
